Industrial and Construction Workers on Presale
V-cube Co. (“V-cube”, Head Office: Tokyo, President and CEO: Naoaki Mashita), together with Konica Minolta (“Konica Minolta”, Head Office: Tokyo, President and CEO: Shoei Yamana) offers their integrated smart glass solution on presale from July 17, 2018. The offering consists of V-cube’s ‘Smart Eye Sync’, a software developed and optimized to remotely support operational work, integrated with ‘WCc (Wearable Communicator)’, Konica Minolta’s smart glass hardware.
[Background of the Integrated Solution]
As the IoT technology began to develop and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Industry 4.0, gained more attention, Konica Minolta commenced the provision of ‘WCc’ to reform the work-style of on-site workers in construction, manufacturing and logistic firms. V-cube has developed ‘Smart Eye Sync’ based on its successful implementation of its remote monitoring and maintenance solutions to industrial work sites. Continuous testing to improve the comfortability and the usability of the integrated solution has resulted in the creation of a new sophisticated Remote Operation Support Solution.
[About ‘Smart Eye Sync’]
A software created and developed by V-cube exclusively for installation on WCc. Compared to ‘xSync Prime’ which is compatible on laptops and smartphones, its functions and features are optimized especially for use on wearable devices. It can deliver high resolution video and clear audio even under a severe network environment. Recipients can record and capture still photos of the real-time video shared from the smart glasses, as well as draw and annotate onto the video and share with other branches.
[About ‘WCc (Wearable Communicator)’]
Smart glasses designed and manufactured by Konica Minolta. Compared to the previous models, it has solved the three issues of bulkiness, heaviness and limited field of view. WCc allows on-site workers to easily collect and share real-time condition of a work site and receive remote operation instructions hands-free. It has been assisting many logistic workers to improve productivity at work sites.
[About the Integrated Remote Operation Support Solution]
(1)Safety
The smart glasses assist its users to secure a wide field of view, allowing them to operate smoothly with minimal distraction. The device weighs 35g, the same weight as normal glasses, with little impact on the nose. The device can be attached onto helmets so that users can wear it over their safety goggles. The controller is designed with physical buttons so that users can operate the device effortlessly with their gloves on.
(2)Usability
To achieve user-friendly usability, the device comes with all necessary functionalities for a one-stop Remote Operation Support Solution. Incoming calls can be answered by a single click using the physical buttons. After answering a call, no extra operation of the device is required by the on-site worker. Recipients can record and capture still photos of the real-time video shared from the smart glasses, as well as draw and annotate onto the video and share with other branches.
(3)Remote Camera Controls: Zoom and Camera Toggle
Recipients can remotely toggle between two cameras attached to the device. A fiberscope camera allows them to zoom in and out, providing them with visual details of the work site. Remote monitoring can be done without having the on-site worker move closer to the object.
