Pioneer VC Inc (head office: Meguro-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Kiyoshi Hara, hereinafter called Pioneer VC) resourced all the primary and middle schools in Kusatsu City, Shiga Prefecture with the visual collaboration service called the “xSync”. The xSync was implemented in schools for utilising 3,200 sets of tablet terminals deployed to enhance learning and enable data to be exchanged amongst teachers and students.

[Background]
Kusatsu City, Shiga Prefecture, has been focusing on implementing an ICT system such as electronic blackboards, in classrooms of primary and middle schools in the city with aims to improve the academic performance including thinking ability, judging ability and expression ability of students, through the promotion of “Simultaneous Learning”, “Individual Learning” and “Cooperate Learning” utilizing tablets. The “xSync” can utilize the existing electronic blackboards and the PC used by teachers as well as providing user friendly operation through PC and tablet terminals, without interrupting or disturbing students and teachers in the primary learning purposes.

[Key factor]
■Multi OS supported
xSync supports multi OS systems and can be installed in the existing PCs used by teachers, and requires no exclusive server for the use in the classrooms. This minimizes cost and time. The easy installation procedures and the cost performance were rated.

■High-speed screen for immediate material distribution and display of answers
Teaching material can be distributed to students’ tablets at the same time, and answers can be comparatively displayed immediately. The smooth learning processes and the speed were rated.

■User friendly operation which causes no interruption of learning
Intuitive operation was rated by the students.

The following comments were received from Mr Hashikawa, Mayer of Kusatsu City, Shiga Prefecture.
This year, Kusatsu City employed 3,200 sets of tablet PCs, and they are now interconnected to the electronic blackboards installed in all the classrooms of the primary and middle schools in Kusatsu City, for better learning.
Though it has only been a little over 2 months since it was introduced in lessons, the interest, curiosity and eagerness of the students have definitely increased. It is reported that some students, who were not confident to talk in front of their classmates, have found a joy in expressing their views in their tablets, and, as a result they have become positive and active in “wanting to be recognized by the classmates”. Instant sharing of the views by the classmates through a cooperative learning support software, has also improved the communication skills of the students.
We hope and expect the tablets and the system implemented continue to be utilised effectively.
